چکیده

plants face many biotic and abiotic stresses at the same time during their growth under field conditions. plants responses toward combined stresses are often more complex than their responses to one type of stress in a way that the results of these responses are called as cross tolerance. this mixture of stresses activates specific models of gene expression that causes special signaling networks and activation of some components of resistance reactions in plants like systemic acquired resistance and r-genes. recently, because of great progresses in genetic sciences, genetic regulation of cross tolerance has gained a lot of attention and it seems that genome reprogramming influenced by combined stresses can play a special role through inducing defense responses in plants. depending on the nature, duration, and intensity of stresses, their impacts on plants can be additive or antagonistic. actually, a range of molecular mechanisms are activated in order to respond to a new situation. the components of these mechanisms include reactive oxygen species, hormone signaling and transcription factors. nowadays, a great challenge in plant cross tolerance is how plants balance their resources between growth and defence against stresses. this review focuses on the responses of plants to simultaneous biotic and abiotic stresses at the molecular level and the importance of studying plant stress factors in combination.

Regulation of Translation Initiation under Biotic and Abiotic Stresses

Plants have developed versatile strategies to deal with the great variety of challenging conditions they are exposed to. Among them, the regulation of translation is a common target to finely modulate gene expression both under biotic and abiotic stress situations. Upon environmental challenges, translation is regulated to reduce the consumption of energy and to selectively synthesize proteins ...

Genetic Engineering and Mutation Breeding for Tolerance to Abiotic and Biotic Stresses: Science, Technology and Safety

Genetic engineering is often presented as a one-step, rapid solution to the improvement of stress tolerance in plants. While it may benefit from but not necessitate, the requirement for backcrossing for gene introgression, it does not reduce the requirement for field trials. The introduction of herbicide and pest resistance into plants has been an applied success and these characteristic singly...

Signal transduction pathways under abiotic stresses in plants

All abiotic stresses reduce plant growth and yield. The products of stress-inducible genes which could be directly protecting against these stresses include the enzymes responsible for the synthesis of various osmoprotectants like late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins, antifreeze proteins, chaperones and detoxification enzymes. Another group of gene products involved in gene expression and...

Abiotic and biotic stresses and changes in the lignin content and composition in plants.

Lignin is a polymer of phenylpropanoid compounds formed through a complex biosynthesis route, represented by a metabolic grid for which most of the genes involved have been sequenced in several plants, mainly in the model-plants Arabidopsis thaliana and Populus. Plants are exposed to different stresses, which may change lignin content and composition. In many cases, particularly for plant-micro...

Comprehensive analysis of trihelix genes and their expression under biotic and abiotic stresses in Populus trichocarpa

Trihelix genes play important roles in plant growth and development and responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. Here, we identified 56 full-length trihelix genes in Populus trichocarpa and classified them into five groups. Most genes within a given group had similar gene structures and conserved motifs. The trihelix genes were unequally distributed across 19 different linkage groups. Fifteen ...

Differential Regulation of Genes Coding for Organelle and Cytosolic ClpATPases under Biotic and Abiotic Stresses in Wheat

A sub-group of class I Caseinolytic proteases (Clps) function as molecular chaperone and confer thermotolerance to plants. We identified class I Clp family consisting of five ClpB/HSP100, two ClpC, and two ClpD genes from bread wheat. Phylogenetic analysis showed that these genes were highly conserved across grass genomes. Subcellular localization prediction revealed that TaClpC and TaClpD subg...
